Position: Senior Research Assistant
Year hired: 1997
Specialty:
Analysis of long-term acoustic datasets for marine mammal sounds and anthropogenic noise
Research:
My current research involves acoustic surveys for marine mammals in remote ocean habitats. Most of my work has been conducted in the Atlantic in the waters of Nova Scotia, Greenland, Iceland and the mid-Atlantic Ridge and has focused on the low-frequency calls of baleen whales. Our laboratory specializes in the development of automatic detection algorithms for such datasets, and I have used these techniques to describe the seasonal acoustic patterns of the calls from blue whales, fin whales, minke whales and the critically endangered North Atlantic right whale.
